“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”

“Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.

“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”

“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.“

Mir Israr Ullah Zehri (Urdu: مير اسراراللہ زہری ) is a politician from Jafarabad, Balochistan, Pakistan. He is a member of the Balochistan National Party and represents Balochistan in the Pakistani Parliament.

Zehri is a radical Muslim extremist, and has attracted condemnation both inside and outside Pakistan for openly supporting the traditional tribal practice of ‘honor killing‘. In August 2008, the Asian Human Rights Commission brought to light the Baluchistan honor killings, in which five women (including three teenagers) in a remote village in Balochistan had been beaten, shot and buried alive in a ditch for the ‘crime’ of having wished to choose their own husbands. ^[1] After human rights activists brought the case to national and international attention, Zehri defended the killings in Parliament and asked his fellow legislators not to make a fuss about the incident.

He said, “These are centuries-old traditions, and I will continue to defend them. Only those who indulge in immoral acts should be afraid.”

A venit toamna, acopera-mi inima cu ceva,
cu umbra unui copac sau mai bine cu umbra ta.

Mă tem ca n-am să te mai vad, uneori,
ca or să-mi creasca aripi ascutite pana la nori,
ca ai să te ascunzi intr-un ochi strain,
si el o să se-nchida cu o frunza de pelin.

Si-atunci mă apropii de pietre si tac,
iau cuvintele si le-nec în mare.
Suier luna si o rasar si o prefac
intr-o dragoste mare.
